THE Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) is set to construct a 400 kilovolt (KV) power transmission line from Triangle to Beitbridge.

In a statement the company said the line which would be an estimated 250 kilometres with 60 metres wayleave would run parallel to the existing 132kV Triangle-Beitbridge line.

“The ZETDC intends to construct the transmission line from Triangle substation outside Triangle to Beitbridge where the line will cut across the Limpopo River in South Africa. The line which will be approximately 250km long and with 60 metres wayleave, is set to run parallel to the existing 132kV Triangle-Beitbridge line where possible,” said the statement.

The parastatal said the line would pass through three districts, Chiredzi, Mwenezi and Beitbridge.

It said the line would form part of the Southern Africa Power Pool (SAPP) priority interconnector projects  connecting Mozambique, Zimbabwe, South Africa (MOZISA Transmission Project).

ZETDC said an environmental and social impact assessment for the project is underway and it invited stakeholders to attend meetings that are meant to provide information about the proposed project.

“An Environmental and Social Impact Assessment for the project is underway as required in terms of the Environmental Management Act.

“ZETDC is inviting stakeholders, interested and affected parties to attend meetings meant to provide detailed information about the proposed                    project, its benefits and how it may affect the environment and communities in the project area,” said ZETDC.

Meanwhile, ZETDC western region is in the process of collecting asset data where there is electricity network infrastructure as part of inventory control.

These assets include meters, poles, cables and lines, some of which pass through its customers’ properties.
