THE Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has warned of scattered thunderstorms today in some parts of the country and urged people to take precautionary measures. Such measures include avoiding outdoor activities.
In a statement yesterday, MSD said the warm, humid and unstable conditions that are affecting the country continue to be responsible for the outbreak of thunderstorms.
“Accordingly, tomorrow, 24 November (today) Matabeleland North Province, Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, all Mashonaland Provinces, Harare Metropolitan Province, North of the Midlands Province as well as Manicaland Province, should be generally cloudy with morning rain showers followed by outbreaks of thunderstorms,” it said.
“It is advisable for those who might be attending various outdoor functions around the country to carry with them umbrellas and raincoats.”
MSD said the thunderstorms could occur as early as mid-morning. According to the statement, the cloud system that was affecting both Matabeleland Provinces yesterday is expected to gradually spread eastward further into the country.
