A MUTARE magistrate on Tuesday sentenced two men from Chimanimani to nine years in jail each, for stock theft.
Moses (38) and Eric Rasekeswa (73) were found guilty of stealing a heifer valued at US$450 from Anesu Chidiriro (31), a cattle rancher residing at Petershook Farm, in Cashel Valley, Chimanimani.

Magistrate Ms Purity Gumbo presided over the trial, while Mr Chris Munyuku prosecuted.
Allegations were that on June 16, Moses Rasekeswa stole Chidiriro’s black and white heifer in Marembwe Village, Chimanimani and slaughtered it.
“He then called Eric, who assisted him to skin it. The two ferried the carcass to their home where Eric hanged it on a tree about 500 meters away,” said Munyuku.

“On June 20, Moses was interviewed by a police officer and was found in possession of a 2kg plastic paper containing semi-dried meat.
‘‘The police officer conducted a search and discovered 2x50kgs sacks of semi-dried meat from his house.

“Moses was then arrested and after some interrogation he implicated Eric. Police then went back to their home where Eric showed them the place he had hung his share of the meat,” he said.
They recovered a carcass weighing 75kg.
