REQUIREMENTS FOR IMPORTING A TRACTOR INTO ZIMBABWE
We have noticed a number of Zimbos buying and taking tractors from South Africa to Zimbabwe.
To have no problems at the border the following is required.
SOUTH AFRICA SIDE
1. Invoice
2. SA Police clearance
3. South African Customs export Bill of Entry.
ZIMBABWE SIDE
1. Active Zimra Business Partner Number (BPN) for import, either as a company or individual.
2. Current tax clearance.
PROCEDURE:
It is advisable to send the invoice and police clearance to the border (Clearing Agent) so that the tractor is cleared on the South African side before it arrives and that the documents are also submitted to Zimra so that there are no delays when the tractor eventually arrives.
Zim side documents are submitted to Zimra, and the clearing agent will get an inspection order so that Zimra will inspect and value the tractor accordingly.
Tractors only pay a clearance fee to Zimra (RTGS800.00) but the importer has to pay the clearing agents (both SA and Zim) for the Agency.
NB
We have noticed that in most cases importers also bring in ploughs together with tractors, some ploughs require import licences and care should be taken to make sure that the import license are in place before the shipment arrives at the border.
