Two men sentenced 18 years each for stocktheft

NYANGA magistrate Ignatio Mhene sentenced a local man and his colleague from Mozambique to 18 years each in prison for stealing four beasts in the resort district.

The pair of Amos Ndamba (29) of Bheka village in Chief Katerere in Nyanga and Vasco George (28) of Nyatsakara village in Mozambique pleaded guilty to two counts of stock theft on Wednesday when they appeared before the court.

Charges against the pair were that on an unknown date in August of this year they stole two heifers at a grazing area.

The State submitted that on the day in question, the complainant lef this two heifers at a grazing area when the two hatched a plan to steal from him.

On September 1st the complainant got information that his heifers had been stolen and sold to one Tinashe Manera of Munemo village.

The complainant teamed up with police officers and proceeded to Munemo village where they quizzed Manera over the missing heifers.

Manera confessed that he had bought the heifers from the accused persons which were all valued at $300, leading to the arrest of Ndambaand George.

On the second count, the State established that sometime in July one John Mupomhoki of Mhanje village in Chief Katerere area lost his two heifers again in the grazing area.

On September 1 this year he also got wind that his missing beasts had been stolen by the two accused persons.

He made a police report and upon interrogation, the accused persons admitted that they had stolen the beasts and sold them to Simba Mutukuwira of Bheka village.

Police and the complainant went to the said village where the heifers were positively identified leading to the arrest of the two.

The State submitted that the accused persons had no right to act in the manner that they did.

For each count, each was slapped with nine years behind bars.
