President Mugabe yesterday swore in members of various commissions among them the Zimbabwe Land Commission (ZLC), tasked with ensuring accountability, fairness and transparency in the administration of agricultural land vested in the State.

Others commissioners sworn in are those on the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec), the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) and the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC).

He swore the commissioners at State House in Harare.

The nine-member ZLC will be chaired by Mrs Tendai Ruth Bare who is an administrator and deputised by lawyer, Mr Tadious Muzoroza.

Other commissioners sworn in were Mr Abdul Nyathi, Mrs Jeanette Manjengwa, Ms Judith Buzuzi, Mr Emmanuel Nyamusa, Ms Margaret Chinhamora, Mr Edmore Mugwagwa Ndudzo and Mr Luke Buka.

The ZLC will conduct periodic land audits and make recommendations to the Government regarding acquisition of private land for public purposes and equitable access to holding and occupation of agricultural land.

The ZLC will ensure there is no discrimination in the allocation of land and ensure no one holds more than one farm.

It will also recommend usage and sizes of land holdings, simplification of acquisition and transfer of rights, systems of land tenure, fair compensation and allocation and alienation of agricultural land.

President Mugabe also swore in six commissioners who filled posts at Zec that fell vacant after expiry of the terms of previous commissioners.

Three of the commissioners bounced back after Parliament’s Committee on Standing Rules and Orders forwarded their names to President Mugabe from interviews conducted in May.

The trio are; former Zec deputy chairperson, Mrs Joyce Kazembe, Mr Daniel Chigaru and Mrs Sibongile Ndlovu.

The other three are Dr Ngoni Kundidzora, Mrs Netsai Mushonga and Mrs Faith Sebata.

The President also swore in ZHRC commissioner; Pastor Petunia Chiriseri and NPRC commissioner, Mrs Netty Musanhu.

Pastor Chiriseri filled the vacancy that was left by a previous commissioner while other commissioners of the NPRC were sworn in, in February this year.
