State Of Major Dams As At 13 January 2017
The current rainy spell the country is going through continues to boost a number of dams countrywide. A number of dams have recorded increases in water levels with major gains having been noted for dams such as Bubi-Lupane dam which recorded a 7,5% upward movement, Chivero Dam which recorded a 5,8% increase, Amapogokwe with a 6,9% increase and Bangala which also recorded a 6,8% upward movement. Muzhwi is also among the dams that have recorded major gains with its levels rising by 14,%.
Some small sized and medium sized dams are now full and spilling. Dams that are now full include Pollards, Harava,Nyamaropa, Tuli Makwe, Lower Mujeni, Nyambuya and Wenimbi.
However no movement has been recorded for Mazowe Dam, which remains stagnant at 4,8% while Mutirikwi dam has had a slight increase of 0,4% which left 7,8% full.
The national dam level average now stands at 50,4% up from 49% as of January 12, 2017.
ZINWA continues to implore all water users to use the available water very sparingly, especially those in areas where the dams have not yet recorded significant improvements. The Authority further implores all those intending to use water from ZINWA managed dams to come forward and enter into water abstraction agreements with ZINWA as required by law.
