State Of Major Dams As At February 13, 2017

February 15, 2017 Public Relations

The country’s dams continue to record increases in water levels with many dams filling up and spilling. The national dam level average record a slight increase and now stands at 62.6%. The dams which are filling and spilling include Chivero, Mazvikadei, Lower Mgusa, Insukamini, Bhiri-Manyame, Wenimbi and Sebakwe (stage I I).

A number of dams have recorded increases these include Manyame, Upper Ncema and Lower Ncema.

While appreciating the upward movement of dam levels, the Zimbabwe National Water Authority, continues to urge water users in all sectors to use the available water very sparingly and to practice rainwater harvesting.

The Authority also appeals to irrigating farmers and other raw water users to ensure that they enter into water abstraction agreements with ZINWA as is required under the water Act. Any use without the necessary documentation is illegal and offenders are liable to prosecution or risk having their supplies disconnected.
