YEAR 2021 has proved to be a very difficult one indeed. The show has had to be postponed three times due to Covid-19 lockdowns and has now finally taken place in September, five months behind normal schedule. Due to these uncertainties, the 2021 edition will be much smaller than in previous years.

Cattle Section

Unfortunately, there will be only six slaughter stock at this year’s show due to the delays in holding the show. Cattle are required to be fed for at least three months and cannot be kept indefinitely, waiting on a show.

Pedigree cattle will be on static display, showcasing various breeds. About 44 head have been entered by Matopos Research Station, Esigodini Agricultural College, Khami Prison, Matabele Borans and Biano Farm.
Breeds include: Boran, Brahman, Nkone, Simmental and Tuli.

Crops Segment
Cotton classes: eight entries; crop section: 786 entries; 23 commercials; and six groups make up this section for 2021. Groups are represented by Bubi, Insiza, Nkayi and Umguza. This is a fair entry considering the ongoing uncertainty. Judging will take place on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 September.

Sheep & Goats: 10 sheep and 30 goats will provide the exhibit for 2021, from Matopos Research Station, Khami Prison and DC Boergoats. Judging will take place on Tuesday 21th of August.

Poultry: A total of 128 birds will be shown and judged on Tuesday 21th of September. Home Industries: due to the school closures, this section has not been operational. However, the junior art and craft entries for the cancelled 2019 show, were judged and will be on display in the hall.

The BAS has invited the Quilters Guild to put on some displays of products in the hall, as well as some handwork from Mlondolozi Prison. The society is also partnering with Monarch/Treger to not only showcase their products, but to educate on their use too.

One part will be regarding cooking, use of utensils and kitchen equipment. The other is the correct usage of garden and irrigation equipment. Altogether, a very exciting addition to the Home Industries and Produce Hall.

Horses: the committee will be putting on their annual horse of the year show, thanks to an exemption from the Sports and Recreation Council. Horses and riders from Harare are expected to compete. This section remains one of the most popular events at the Show.

The society’s main arena will, once again, be filled with sponsor companies, who will be show cased in our main arena, with their display of farming implements, tractors, vehicles, seed, veterinary products, etc.

The society reintroduced the competition for the Best Agricultural Stand, which was won by the Ministry of Lands,

Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Settlement in 2019 and the trophy will, once again, be presented in the main arena at the ZITF Opening.
