Farmers in Mashonaland West Province have lauded Government after receiving additional Presidential and Command Agriculture inputs this week for the 2017-2018 summer cropping season.

Of late, farmers had been raising concern over the late disbursement of inputs, which has forced some of them to miss their planting deadline. Zanu-PF Central Committee member Cde Ephraim Chengeta, who is also Mhondoro-Ngezi council chairman, yesterday said farmers in the province started receiving additional inputs this week. He said youths were the major beneficiaries this time around, as Government had increased their share from the previous allocation.

“Youths in Mhondoro-Ngezi specifically have started receiving inputs this week,” he said. Cde Chengeta said the seed had come at a time when economic growth was a top priority.

“The seed has arrived at the right time when we expect an economic turnaround,” he said. “The youths have also received seed and this will help them financially, as well as boosting our country’s economy.” Villagers in Nyaminyami, Kariba District, on Monday thanked Government for providing them with inputs on time. A farmer, Mrs Herbert Murwesa, said they expected a good harvest as they had planted on time.

“We received our first batch of seed and fertiliser from Government and Presidential inputs on time, and we are pleased that we started receiving additional ones last week,” he said. Another farmer from Banket, Mrs Annastancia Dege, expressed gratitude for Government’s gesture. We are pleased with the additional inputs we are receiving,” she said.
