Government has acquired more than 1 867 hectares of land for the purpose of resettling landless Zimbabweans. In the Extraordinary Government Gazette published yesterday, Minister of Lands and Rural Resettlement Dr Douglas Mombeshora (above)gave notice of the acquisition of agricultural land under Section 72 (2) of the Constitution.
“It is hereby notified that in terms of Section 72 (2) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, the Minister of Lands and Rural Resettlement acquires for, and on behalf of the State, the land identified and described in the schedule for the purposes of agricultural settlement,” reads part of the gazette notice.
Government acquired 1 621 hectares that were registered in Samuel Shemer’s name in Gweru, 36 hectares were acquired from Marcasite (Private) Limited in Chegutu, 110 hectares from John Murray Garfield in Harare and 102 hectares from Andrew Raymond Morrisby in Umzingwane.
So far over over 300 000 families have benefited from the land reform programme.
