Agriculture, Land, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Minister Anxious Masuka today visited Mashonaland East Province where he engaged communal farmers and assess progress on Pfumvudza programme.

Minister Masuka who is on a national tour visited Mutoko, Uzumba Maramba Pfungwe (UMP) and Murewa districts where he engaged various farmers and also got an appreciation of challenges faced by farmers.

In UMP, Minister Masuka made a stop at Uzumba legislator Cde Simbaneuta Mudarikwa’s farm where he also interacted with various farmers.

Cde Mudarikwa has put 7 hectares under maize and also 10 hectares under traditional grains. Minister Masuka, while addressing farmers in UMP, said people should now take farming as a business.

He said his tour is aimed at assessing crops mainly those under Pfumvudza and also to make sure that all households have received inputs.

“I was assigned by President Mnangagwa to make a follow up on Pfumvudza inputs distribution because the President said each and every household should benefit. We are aware as a Ministry that no household and no village should be left behind.

“These inputs are from our President, they do not belong to me, or to the MP or to the Agritex officers. Our job is to make sure that these inputs reach the intended beneficiaries and that no one is left behind.

“You should take agriculture as a business. You should be serious about farming and contribute to the achievement of Vision 2030.”

Minister Masuka will visit other districts in Mashonaland East Province tomorrow before heading for Manicaland Province.
