RAINS recorded in some parts of the country over the past few days do not signify the start of the rainy season, the Meteorological Services Department said yesterday.
MSD head of forecasting Mr Tichaona Zinyemba said the rains were likely to subside after tomorrow.
“Expectations are that by Friday 25 October 2013, the weather systems responsible for the current cloudy and rainy weather should have weakened considerably, paving the way for much warmer and less cloudy weather,” he said.
Various parts of the country received varying amounts of rains yesterday with Gweru recording 44mm with hail, Mutare 32mm, Chisengu 23mm, Makoholi and Zaka 15mm, Masvingo and Buffalo Range 12mm, Chivhu 11mm, Zvishavane 10mm, while Marondera and Hwedza received 9mm.
He said another cloud band was forecast to cover the country from Sunday, leading to another wet spell all over Zimbabwe. Highest ever daytime temperatures were experienced on October 21 with Binga recording 40 degrees celsius, Kariba 39 degrees and Victoria Falls 38 degrees. Weather experts forecast that the northern half of the country will receive normal to above normal rainfall for the 2013/2014 farming season, while southern and western parts were likely to receive normal to below normal rainfall.
