Surrey has applied for a licence from the Zimbabwe Regulatory Authority (ZERA) to construct a 117 Kw solar power plant in Bromley, Marondera.

In a statement, ZERA said it has received an application from Distributed Power Africa(Private) Limited for MD De Chassart and Son(Private) Limited popularly known as Surrey to construct, own, operate and maintain a 117Kw solar photovoltaic power plant in Bromley for own consumption.

A number of corporates have installed solar power plants at their headquarters.

“Surrey intends to generate power from the proposed solar plant for own consumption, the project will be net metered by Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company as provided in Electricity (Net Metering) Regulations published in Statutory Instrument 86 of 2018,” said ZERA.

The licence application by Surrey was done in terms of the provisions of Sections 42 and 46 of the Electricity Act( Chapter 13:19).

Recently, three independent power producers have applied to ZERA for licences to establish solar power plants that will add about 100MW to the national grid.
